He said defense and security, health care, and the economy are at the top of the nation's agenda. "The local projects that drive our local economy, the improvements to the ports, security at our ports, security at airports, that make it possible for people to travel more easily are all going to get a lot of attention over the next period of time," Lampson said. "I think you are going to see increased use of technology for security purposes." Lampson said the economy of Southeast Texas remains strong despite national problems. "We tend to lag behind the rest of the country in some of our economic downturns," Lampson said. "We are still fairly strong. There is a lot of growth. There has been a lot of construction that has been happening, both with highways and primarily in the petrochemical industry." Lampson said he will be home in the district almost every weekend during the session. "It is a huge pleasure to try to be of service to the Gulf Coast region and Southeast Texas."
