High School junior Ralph Paone, 17, has been selected as an
“Institute Fellow,” one of fourteen students in the United
States to serve in the Kentucky National Debate Institute this
June. The
“Institute Fellows” program was inaugurated nineteen years
ago to recognize high school juniors going into their senior
year who have distinguished themselves nationally in forensic
activities. As
an “Institute Fellow,” Paone will function like a graduate
student, study full-time and operate in a quasi-staff
position. Students will be given opportunities to do research, work
closely with a lab leader, do demonstration debates and
participate in the planning of their curriculum.
“I’m very excited about being an Institute Fellow at the University of Kentucky this summer,” said Paone. “Being a fellow will not only help me in the short-term by getting my name out to major schools for tournament invitations next year, but it will also help me in the long-term by advancing my researching and networking skills that will be essential for a future in business or law.” United
