The
Association of Defense Trial Attorneys,
which held its national convention in
Galveston this week, approved a resolution
in defense of the judicial system, which the
lawyers feel has been under attack. Resolution
"Wheras,
the ADTA condemns the recent acts of violence
against our judiciary and the threats and
attacks on their actions in applying the
rule of law," the resolution reads in
part. "Be it therefore resolved
that the members of the ADTA are committed
to defending the independence of our
judiciary, to preserving the jury system and
to protecting our judiciary as our judges
exert their best efforts to apply the rule
of law."
"Our
resolution today was a way of expressing our
concern for the protection of our judicial
system," said Gordon Broom, president
of the ADTA. "The attack in the
judicial in Chicago on the judge's family
and the attack in the courtroom in Atlanta
are serious, serious matters for the
American people. We need to preserve
the integrity, the independence and the
accessibility of our third branch of
government, our judicial system."
