Joel CowleyHOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW AND RODEO™ OFFICIALS ANNOUNCE NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR 

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Skip Wagner announced today that Joel Cowley will assume the duties of executive director, agricultural exhibits, for the Show beginning in February.

Cowley currently serves as assistant director of the foodservice division of Certified Angus Beef LLC, the not-for-profit division of the American Angus Association, which has successfully positioned Angus beef as a premium choice for consumers.

He has been with CAB since 2002, where he started in the position of executive account manager for the international division. 

"Joel’s rich agricultural background and knowledge of the industry will be significant to this position," said Wagner. "He brings with him not only Show and educational experience, but also the business experience required to develop new programs and build on the success of the Houston Livestock Show™. We are excited to have him on the team."

Prior to Cowley’s employment with CAB, he was a faculty member at Michigan State University. He served as an extension beef specialist, as well as an extension agent, livestock area of expertise. Prior to that, he was involved with Texas A&M University as a lecturer and the livestock judging team coach.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Colorado State University, a master’s in animal science from Texas A&M University and an MBA from Michigan State University.

"I am very excited to return to the Texas agricultural industry and, in particular, to work once again with Texas youth," said Cowley.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a 501 (c)(3) charitable event, committed to benefiting youth and supporting education throughout the state. Since presenting its first scholarship in 1957, the Show has committed more than $100 million in educational support to the youth of Texas.
