GALVESTON,
Texas (Jan. 28)- Side boys, members of the
Galveston Chief Petty Officer's Association,
line the walkway to the shore side
Blackthorn Memorial.
The memorial
was held in honor of 23 crewmen of the
Galveston-based Coast Guard cutter
Blackthorn who lost their lives in a 1980
collision in Tampa Bay, Fla.
More
than 100 active duty, reservists,
auxiliarist, civilians and officials from
the 8th Coast Guard District attended the
ceremony in addition to 20 friends and
relatives of the lost crewmembers.
