Russian
Pianist to Perform March 13
with Galveston Symphony
GALVESTON
– Russian-born pianist Zoya Shuhatovich
will perform Rachmaninoff’s Piano
Concerto No. 2 in C minor with the
Galveston Symphony Orchestra in concert at 7
pm, Sunday, March 13 at the Grand 1894 Opera
House, 2020 Postoffice St.
Shuhatovich
has toured across the former Soviet Union
and Europe. She performed at the October
1998 Chopin Festival in New York and at a
recital for President Clinton in 2002. She
received her doctorate in piano performance
in 1982 from the Gorky State Conservatory
under Professor Ilya Friedman, and
immigrated to the United States in 1993 when
she joined the faculty of the Moores School
of Music at the University of Houston.
Artists
and critics have commented on her skilled
technical qualities, beauty of tone and
musical sensibilities which combine to
define Shuhatovich as a uniquely sensitive
virtuoso performer. Her style is
particularly suited to this tour de force by
Rachmaninoff, the virtuoso romantic-style
Russian pianist and composer.
Also
on the program: Kodaly’s Hary
Janos Suite and Barber’s Adagio
for Strings.
The
GSO presents this acclaimed soloist as part
of its silver 25th anniversary
season. The symphony is under the baton of
conductor and musical director Richard
Pickar, former principal clarinetist with
the Houston Symphony Orchestra.
