Cast
members Jeffrey Johnston, Anna Grubbs, and
Mike Fabian rehearse a scene from
Shakespeare’s Measure For Measure at Bay
Area Harbour Playhouse.
“Shakespeare’s
Contemporary Political Undertones Takes
Measure!
Who
would have thought that the beautiful
Shakespearean language could fit in
today’s society with witty political
undertones?
Well, director Diane Wonio has taken
Shakespeare’s comedy Measure For Measure
into an interesting new direction with the
current production at Bay Area Harbour
Playhouse.
The
cast includes a troupe of local favorites
and very seasoned actors from Galveston
County including: Mike Fabian of Friendswood
playing Vincentio, Jeffrey Johnston of
Galveston playing Angelo, Janna Grubbs of
Clear Lake playing Isabella, John Lara of
Dickinson playing Elbow, Michael Wonio of
Galveston playing Escalus, as well as
Hamilton Davis Boyd, Hal Bushnell, Rich
Cline, Sarah Enticknap, Lyman Hall, Jeff
Luchsinger, Debra Meeks, Dick Regenburgh
III, and John J. Zipay.
Shakespeare’s
Measure For Measure is about a Duke
who wants a first hand view of the workings
of justice within his own domain, and so he
assigns the governing power to his deputy.
But once the Duke is in disguise and sees
what has become of the law and order in his
land, he manages to prevent wicked intents
from becoming wicked deeds. Justice based on
measure for measure must be tempered with
mercy.
A story of love, betrayal, blackmail,
comedy, and politics as usual!

Measure For Measure plays March
