Sæverud to perform
April 3 Galveston concert
GALVESTON
– Norwegian-born violinist and
concertmaster Trond Sæverud returns by
popular demand to perform at 3 p.m., Sunday,
April 3 at Galveston Island Arts Academy,
2627 Avenue O.
Sæverud
frequently solos with orchestras in
Scandinavia and has recorded orchestral
performances in Norway and Denmark, with his
live CD “Ghosts” winning a Norwegian
equivalent of a Grammy Award in 1998. He has
also performed with the Royal Philharmonic
Orchestra in London and toured extensively
in Europe, Japan and the United States, in
solo performances and as part of his 20-year
association with pianist Einar Røttingen.
Sæverud
and Røttingen collaborated in the 1997
birth centennial celebration of acclaimed
Norwegian composer Harald Sæverud,
Trond’s grandfather, whose music was
featured in a series of concerts in major
U.S., European and Japanese cities. Trond Sæverud
participated that year in more than 100
festivals, concerts and master classes
commemorating his grandfather’s music.
Sæverud
completed his orchestra conducting studies
in 2002 under the tutorship of Brian
Priestman at the University of Kansas. Sæverud
and his wife, artist Joan Siem, spend their
winters in Galveston and relocate to
Prospect Harbour, Maine, in the summer,
where he serves as artistic director of the
Harald Sæverud string quartet program.
While in Galveston, he will conduct master
violin classes at the Galveston Arts
Academy.
