D Remodel Takes Home National Honor
Houston,
Texas--Honoring the "best of the
best" for construction projects
completed in 2004, the Associated General
Contractors (AGC) and Aon Construction
Services Group teamed up at AGC's 2005
Annual Convention in Las Vegas, Nev., to
present this year's winners of the Aon Build
America Awards. The Build America Awards
symbolize excellence in construction,
promoting quality, uniqueness and innovation
within individual projects.
SpawGlass
Construction Corp., a 100% employee-owned
Texas based general contractor, received the
first place honor in the

Terminal D required major structural,
mechanical and electrical modifications
along with a new sterile corridor and ramp,
modifications of the in-transit lounge and
three new interview rooms for Customs and
Border Protection. The project was
constructed during the night hours while
keeping the terminal operational at all
times. at George
Bush Intercontinental Airport
Lynn
McDonald, Program Manager for the Houston
Airport System stated, "It became
evident early in the project that we had a
quality team dedicated to helping each other
solve problems. Although we didn't
implement formal Partnering for this
project, I believe the team adopted a
Partnering attitude. The project was
successful largely because of that
attitude." In addition to
SpawGlass as general contractor, the project
team included The PB Team, serving as
Construction Manager, and the design firm
PGAL.
Differentiating
itself from other projects, the work area
had to be spotless by 7 a.m. each morning
and appear as though no one had been working
the night before. With extremely limited
space conditions the team had to develop
creative solutions for steel erection,
material delivery and other project issues.
In spite of many changes to the scope of
work, the project was completed ahead of
schedule. The finished product consists of
glass and aluminum mullions, varieties of
architectural metal paneling, high impact
wall panels and terrazzo flooring.
SpawGlass
is a 52-year old firm providing general
contracting, design-build and construction
management services throughout Texas. The

Business Journal, 2004, Companies
