BENETEAU AND SEA LAKE YACHTS TO SPONSOR SHOE RACE

Lakewood Yacht Club Race Committee Chairman John Barnett has announced that the 23rd annual Shoe Regatta will be held over the weekend of May 14-15.  In 1982, Sperry shoes and Past Commodore Ed Matthews created this regatta as the first of it’s kind with the winning crew in each class (not just the captain)  being awarded Sperry deck shoes.

“Added to the winning crews getting deck shoes, each crew member will receive a free boat duffle bag compliments of Beneteau,” related Barnett.

Open to the public, the Shoe Regatta is for PHRF, one-design, and cruising sailboats over 20 feet in length and with a cabin.    New this year are two classes, the Classic Class and 109 Class.  There will be three race courses set on Galveston Bay; a long distance race course with longer legs and a triangle course for the spinnaker and non-spinnaker boats.

In addition to sponsors Beneteau and Sea Lake Yachts, returning sponsors from last year will be Sperry Top-sider Shoes, Boat Shoes Unlimited, Essex Credit Corporation and Kevin E. Severance Insurance.  This team of sponsors will be displaying the latest yachting goods and information at the Skipper’s meeting the night of Fri., May 13, and in the Inner Harbor the two days of racing.

The latest yachts from Beneteau will be shown by the Sea Lake Yacht Sales staff and interested parties can get help with insurance from Kevin Severance and banking help from Donna Ryan of Essex Credit.  Boat Shoes Unlimited will be displaying the latest from Sperry Top-sider’s newly expanded line of deck shoes.

The Saturday evening party will be pool side with lots of door prizes and featuring a reggae band, free food and beer.  The awards ceremony will follow the last race on Sun., May 15, and will be held in the ballroom of Lakewood Yacht Club, 2425 NASA Parkway.

For a registration form, please check Lakewood’s website at  www.lakewoodyachtclub.com or call the clubhouse at 281-474-2511.
