FBI
SPECIAL AGENT FLETCHER SPEAKS TO THE GREATER
KATY EXCHANGE CLUB
The
Greater Katy Exchange Club www.KatyExchangeClub.com
was
honored on Thursday, December 1st
having FBI Supervisory Special Agent Cheryl
Fletcher, Houston Division speak at their
monthly membership meeting at Cinco Ranch
Golf Country Club.
She
joined the FBI in 1989, after serving seven
years as a U.S. Army officer. Her first
assignment was in Memphis, where she spent
two years working a variety of violent crime
matters. She then was sent to the Defense
Language Institute in Monterey, California,
where she spent a year learning Farsi,
followed by a transfer to New York City. She
spent six year in New York City, working
national security matters, in 1998, she was
transferred to FBI headquarters in
Washington, D.C. as an international
terrorism supervisor, and deployed to Kenya
in 1998 after the bombing of the U.S.
Embassy in Nairobi. Her last assignment in
Washington, D.C., was as the
counterterrorism liaison officer to the U.S.
State Department. In 2001, she was
transferred to the Houston Division, where
she is currently a supervisor on a national
security squad.
Fletcher
mentioned that the local FBI office has 285
FBI agents along the gulf coast and
surrounding areas.
Field intelligence groups of 56 field
offices across the country work together.
The Justice Dept. cannot secure our nation
against terrorist attack unless
investigators are equipped with tools that
allow them to disrupt plots before they can
be carried out. These same tools must
protect civil liberties. National Security
Letters (NSLs) satisfy both requirements. In
national security investigations, the FBI
must follow up on every tip and every
threat. The American people demand as much.
The US Patriot Act adopted after 9-11
terrorist attack removed legal matters so
the FBI and CIA could work together with
each other and law enforcement agencies to
share investigative information.
Fletcher
mentioned that FBI agents are living among
our neighborhood subdivisions just like
anyone else. Their kids attend the same
schools as ours do. Newell Cheatheam,
President Elect of the Katy Exchange Club
said the attendees were really impressed
with special agent Fletcher and the
information she shared with the group about
the FBI and anti-terrorism.
Wendy
Rial, President of the Katy Exchange Club
presented Fletcher with an American Flag
that has flown over the Sugar land Exchange
Club 2005 Field of Flags recognizing the
1800 abused children in Ft Bend County.
The
Greater Katy Exchange Club meets the first
and third Thursday, 6:30 pm at Cinco Ranch
Golf Club. It is a service organization that
is helping to improve the Katy Community,
educating the public against child abuse,
about Americanism, Youth activities,
recognizing youth in local schools,
