Dickinson City Council
An Email Report on Tuesday's meeting by Council Member Kerry Neves
January 11, 200

Dickinson City Council Member Kerry NevesGood Morning & Happy New Year to all.  Here is a brief summary of last night's City Council meeting, our first of 2005.

A proclamation was presented to the DISD School Board, designating January as School Board Recognition Month in the City.

An ordinance was approved on final reading dissolving the Parks & Recreation Board.

We received a report from staff on personnel matters relating to accumulated vacation time by a number of employees.  As part of developing a new personnel policy, we had directed the staff to look into how that could be reduced.  To buy back the time would cost the City a substantial amount, which we do not have budgeted.  We directed staff to insure employees take their vacation, and extra vacation as needed, to get the accumulation down to no more than 120 hours.

We next approved an ordinance adopting the Personnel Policy for 2005.

The City voted to support the reappointment of Paul Maaz as a board member of the Subsidence District.  He will now serve another two-year term.

Council approved two projects adopted by the Dickinson Economic Development Corporation, one relating to a small green space park on the grounds of the proposed new fire station, and the second aiding the restoration of the Historic Railroad Depot Project.

We conducted a brief Executive session to do our annual evaluation of the City Secretary, Misty Nardin.  After the session, we voted to retain her services and to give her a 4.5% pay raise to her base salary.  She has proven to be an excellent asset to the City in her year with us.

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.  Dickinson was blessed with a white Christmas, something many of us had never seen.  The new year promises to bring us many challenges as well as many opportunities.  As always, you are encouraged to participate in all activities of our City.  Our next meeting will be January 25 at 7:00 PM.

Kerry Neves
