WCID
No. 12 is currently holding a bond election to issue $11
million in bonds for various improvements throughout the
District. Election day is February 5. Early voting
continues through February 1. You must go to the
District’s office on
Cien Street
to vote.
I
would like to encourage each of you to support this bond
proposal. The District’s infrastructure in several
areas, and especially in
Clear
Lake
Shores
, is very old, causing low water pressure and a high level of
maintenance expenses. I think this is an investment that
we need to make. In large measure, because of the
annexation, the District will not have to raise taxes to
support these bonds.
I
have had some Kemah residents grumble to me, asking why they
should support this bond proposal when most of the money will
be spent in
Clear
Lake
Shores
. I hope that someday, not to distant in the future,
these kinds of questions will not even enter people’s minds.
The reason Kemah residents should support the bond is because
our friends and neighbors are entitled to good water pressure
and decent sanitation. Also, I would remind Kemah voters
that many of our neighbors from
Clear
Lake
Shores
joined us in supporting candidates that were committed to
completing the annexation of
South Kemah
and Kemah Oaks. To vote against this bond issue because
it primarily benefits
Clear
Lakes
Shores
would be poor repayment of that support.
It
is time that we begin ignoring the nonsensical, jig-saw
jurisdictional boundaries we have inherited from a different
time and begin concentrating on what is good for this
community as a whole. This bond proposal is good for
this community.
