CCISD in
its latest propaganda release again showed its arrogance by
proclaiming League City should build roads and infrastructure
at the ill-conceived site of the fourth CCISD high school.
New high
schools must be built, but not at the whim of overzealous
school board members and certain elected officials who are
CCISD puppets. By allowing thousands of vehicles to
venture down a dead-end street with only one entrance and exit
shows total disregard for student safety and welfare. I
would hope the City Fire Marshal and Director of Public Safety
has been contacted concerning location of the proposed high
school.
The CCISD
propaganda machine has only just begun. CCISD slogan “it's
good for the kids” will not blackmail the League City
councilmen and women who maintain their principles and ethics.
Elected officials of League City must protect the citizens
from the underhanded tactics of CCISD. League City tax
dollars are for the benefit of the citizens, not to be used
when CCISD misleads tax payers by purposely understating their
bond proposal, knowing the bond would not pass at higher
amounts. This is not the first time CCISD has bullied
and blackmailed council into supplying additional funds.
Previous projects that also were under funded and required
League City to bail them out include, Goforth and Bauerschlag
Elementary schools, as well as Victory Lakes and League City
Intermediate schools.
CCISD has
not disclosed their full agenda. Saying they only need a
road is an half-truth, they also will need League City to
build a bridge over Clear Creek to access their property on
the north side of the creek. This the proposed site of the new
bus barn, leaving the citizens in wonderment at the scheming
that has gone into the numerous land acquisitions. CCISD
bonds would never pass if the truth was known and the true
money commitments needed to fund such projects were included.
CCISD
contends they were surprised to discover council had deleted
the Capital Improvement Plan. This is fabrication or
incompetence from CCISD and either scenario should bring
change to the school board and/or officials within the
district. CCISD has backed itself into a corner and put
future education in doubt for the students. If CCISD
will listen to reason, this outcome can be averted and a
proper site found for the fourth high school.
At
workshops between council and CCISD, several council members
suggested Palomino Lane not to be the best site for the fourth
high school, citing safety, traffic and infrastructure
concerns. CCISD tried to pull a fast one on the citizens
by bringing the interlocal agreement to council at the last
minute. This proposal should have been put before
council six months ago. But again CCISD mode of
operation is to subvert the process and throw “it’s for
the kids” card in the face of council, more blackmail and
propaganda from CCISD.
This
property is zoned single-family residential and is ideally
suited for this purpose. A zoning change will also be
required by CCISD, and again another roadblock stands in the
way of a mismanaged CCISD plan for the future of the
students. I urge the citizens of League City to visit
the proposed location for the fourth high school. Citizens
will be unimpressed at the lack of planning by CCISD.

P.S.
I voted for Mayor Jeff Harrison, I campaigned for his
election, I stood by him when council cast a vote of
no-confidence, but I was extremely disappointed at his
comments at the League City Chamber luncheon on Friday
February 13, 2005. Mayor, I know the need for new high
schools, our difference in opinion is the best location for
the new school. I consider you to be my friend; I hope
you will do the same. |
