First
of all, I’d like to thank FISD's Appointee to GCAD
(Galveston
County Appraisal District) Harold Whitaker for joining us and
attending the candidate’s forum. We had a full house that
night and it was wonderful seeing so much community
participation at Village On The Park.
If there were specific inaccuracies in the article Kathy
Rogers edited, I would certainly
like to hear what they were. Too often vague, but
definitely not flattering comments about someone are
circulated throughout Friendswood such as, “has made
enemies," “said something ugly," “doesn't go
along or get along." This type of gossip is
difficult to defend, but to the readers (and “hearers” )
of these kinds of comments I would ask that they inquire of
the person spreading the rumors, “Who?”, “What”?”,
“In what circumstance?”, and "Have you spoken with
this person directly?" It would be more
"friendly" if less were said behind someone's back
in Friendswood.
I would also respectfully ask, whether Drainage District
Director Whitaker invited Guidry News to attend the forum, or
any other news organization? Did he spend any time contacting
the candidates or the League of Women Voters to invite them to
participate in the forum so the community could make an
informed vote this year?
And finally, did he work with
others to secure a location for the forum (since the City was
unwilling to let us use City Hall, the Public Library, or the
Senior Activities Center)?
I can definitely say that I
worked on all of the above items, with others, and understood
clearly why Guidry News can’t be everywhere, especially on
“Tax night”. Several people,
including myself, reviewed the article Guidry News posted
April 17.
Simply stated, the article
pointed out the clear differences between the candidates.
Moffitt and Brizendine took an “Incumbent” point-of-view,
(which is understandable for Mrs. Brizendine, considering her
almost 12 years of service to our City), and LeCour and Peden
took the, "cut-taxes and current wasteful spending
without reducing services, "let's put the 'friend' back
in Friendswood," conservative point-of view.
Sincerely,
Deborah Winters
