More
than 300 guests attended the Clear Creek
Education Foundation’s recent “Reach for the
Stars” fund-raising gala at the San Luis
Resort & Conference Center in Galveston. The
turnout was truly amazing given that Clear
Creek Independent School District staff
members, Foundation members and community
volunteers pulled the event together just
two days after returning from the Hurricane
Rita evacuation. Considering that the
committee lost more than a week of planning
time immediately before the event, the gala
was extremely well done.
I want to
take this opportunity to applaud the
Foundation’s ongoing efforts and unwavering
commitment to raise funds for CCISD. I also
want to thank the community sponsors who
helped the Foundation raise more than
$96,000 for a net profit of nearly
$70,000. These funds allow the Foundation to
channel resources to our schools with the
goal of enriching and enhancing CCISD
students’ academic achievements. I offer a
special thanks to community members who
support the school district, whether they
have children in school or not, because
these students are our community’s
contribution to society.
It is
such an honor to be part of a community that
values education and supports our schools.
Clear Creek ISD has produced some fine folks
who have accomplished some great things.
During
the evening, Houston radio personality Dayna
Steele of The BizRadio Network presented the
CCISD Outstanding Alumni Awards to former
professional golfer Lars Meyerson, ’79;
Tinker Murray, ’69; Rebecca Hall Parker,
’82; and Broadway’s Bye Bye Baby
director John Rando, ’79. Bill Kruegar, the
Foundation’s president, received the
George Carlisle Distinguished Service Award.
A special
tribute was given to Clear Creek High School
graduate and Iraqi war hero, Ray Joseph
Hutchinson ’01, who gave his life for his
country in December 2003. Hutchinson was
given CCISD’s first-ever posthumous Valor
Award. He truly demonstrates the caliber of
young people we are graduating from CCISD.
I hope
honoring these CCISD alumni will motivate
our current students to reach for the stars,
both in school and after graduation.
