Giuseppe “Joe” GrassoGiuseppe “Joe” Grasso, 85, of Galveston passed away Sunday, July 24, 2005.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 28th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Frank Fabj as Celebrant.  Entombment will follow the service at Calvary Mausoleum.

The family will receive visitors after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.  A rosary will be held at 7 p.m.

Giuseppe was born on January 28, 1920 in Aci Trezza, Sicily, Italy.  He immigrated to the United States in 1951 and was a resident of Galveston for 53 years.  Possessing a strong work ethic, he was a longshoreman with the local ILA #20 for 31 years and a shrimper for 52 years.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Galveston and the San Giovanni Italian-American Association.

Giuseppe was undeniably happiest when he was surrounded by his family.  He was a dedicated husband and a proud father and grandfather.  Without fail, his family gathered each week for lunch and spent each holiday together, creating endearing memories that serve as a testament to the strength of his family and their love for him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Giovanni and Rosaria Grasso; his wife, Giovannina Grasso; and his son, John Grasso.

He is survived by his daughter, Sara Grasso, of Houston; sons, Angelo Grasso, and wife, Susan, of Galveston; Joseph Grasso and wife, Paula, of Austin, and Mario Grasso and wife, Kristina, of Texas City; and 11 grandchildren:  Christopher Figaro, Lauren Figaro, Joseph Grasso, Mary Louise Grasso, Joey Grasso, Danny Grasso, Anthony Grasso, Gina Grasso, Gabriella Grasso, Mitchell Grasso, and Sofia Grasso.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Conti, Sebastien Conti, Jr., Natalino Conti, Joseph Conti, Christopher Figaro, and Joseph Grasso.  Sebastien Lofaro and Vincent Mazzara will be honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
