Special To Guidry News Service - Mardi Gras Forecast
by Stan Blazyk

February 3, 2005

Galveston weather expert Stan Blazyk has been following the weather patterns in advance of the beginning of the 2005 Mardi Gras Celebration.  He successfully predicted the weather for the past weekend and is now looking toward the final weekend.

With a strong upper-level disturbance moving in from the west, more rain is in the picture for Galveston. At the present time, it appears that the heaviest rain may hold off until very late Saturday or early Sunday, though we may see clouds and some light rain on Saturday. On the plus side, temperatures will be a little milder this weekend than last with highs in the low-60's.

The ideal scenario for us would be for the bulk of the rain to hold off until after midnight on Saturday and then clear out before the noon parade on Sunday. This appears feasible at present, but with the uncertainties in timing with these systems, we need some luck for this scenario to play out and I'm not 100 percent certain that we can manage this two weekends in a row.
