Good
morning to everyone. Here is a brief
summary of last night's Dickinson City
Council Meeting. Feel free to pass it
on to any one whom you think would be
interested in seeing it.
We began
the meeting with an executive session to
consult with our attorney and discuss
terms for a contract with Julie
Johnston, selected to be the new city
administrator. Because she had flown in
that afternoon and had to leave to catch
the last flight out of Hobby to Dallas,
we did that work first, but were unable
to get everything done on the contract.
We will continue to work on that so that
Ms. Johnston can get to work for us as
soon as possible.
As a part
of the consent agenda, we approved
resolutions dealing with agreements
between the City and Officers Donaldson
and Stewart for use of their motorcycles
in traffic patrol.
A budget
amendment ordinance was approved,
dealing with various departments and
funds.
A request
to remove 2 significant trees at
3857 Armand Drive was approved. That
will allow construction of a home on the
property located at that address.
A
resolution dealing with material testing
services from QC Laboratory for the new
fire station and maintenance facility
addition was approved. The company will
do testing on the soils, drilled piers,
concrete, steel and masonry used in
those projects.
The
architects for the City Hall complex
presented their schematic design plans
for approval. This will cover the new
City Hall, which includes the
Court/Council Chambers and Water
District Offices. The plan has evolved
to have the Library as a separate
building on the grounds of the complex.
The cost is now approaching $4.5 million
in hard construction costs. After
discussion with the architects and our
program manager, the plans were
approved, which will allow the
architects to proceed to the next step
in the process.
We canceled the Council meeting which
would normally have been scheduled on
December 26, and set a meeting on
December 19 at 7:00 PM.
The
Christmas Parade is tomorrow night,
beginning at 7:00 PM. The route is from
True Cross School's parking lot down FM
517 to Amegy Bank. I hope everyone will
participate or come out to watch.
The
Festival of Lights is having a great
season. If you haven't been yet you
need to do so. The crowds have been
large, especially on weekends, and it
will only get busier as Christmas
approaches and students are out of
school for the Christmas break. It will
definitely get you in the Christmas
Spirit, so go see the lights. Shuttle
buses run from True Cross to the Park on
weekend nights, which is the easiest way
to get to and from.
Let me
know if you have any questions about the
meeting or this summary. Everyone have
a safe and happy Christmas and New
Years.
