City Manager
Steve LeBlanc today reported to Galveston
City Council in workshop that city staff and
The Goodman Corporation have met with the
Historic Downtown Galveston Partnership and
other downtown stakeholders to discuss a
proposal to join the
Main Street Program.
"The feeling
is that the downtown area could benefit from
the Main Street Program," LeBlanc said.
"The Goodman Corporation has determined that
the inclusion of $30,000 within Island
Transit marketing/Main Street budget
category will provide sufficient funds to
enable the city to commit to the Main Street
Program as well as provide marketing funds
for Island Transit."
LeBlanc
reported on a meeting of the Convention
Center Management Committee on June 21.
"We reviewed
financials, bookings and operations
reports," LeBlanc said. "The
convention center is doing better than
projected. Like any new convention center,
it does take time for the bookings to grow,
because so many organizations book several
years in advance."
LeBlanc
reported that the Adolf & Kaetha Weschsler
Foundation has contributed $1,600 for the
summer band concerts, "to fund one
additional concert, which will be the final
concert of the summer and will honor the
seniors who attend."
LeBlanc said
that Hassan Nikooei of Texas Department of
Transportation Houston District Project
Development will make a presentation to the
city council on the Bolivar Bridge Project
at the July 27 workshop.
LeBlanc also
provided the city council with a copy of a
memorandum from Planning and Community
Services Director Wendy O'Donohoe to the
Galveston Planning Commission concerning
building heights.
Memorandum
The city
council will meet in formal session at 5:30
p.m.
