...New daily rainfall record set at
Jamaica Beach on Monday...
The Jamaica Beach Weather Observatory
(JBHT2) recorded a total of 4.53 inches
of
rainfall on Monday from Midnight to
Midnight CST (1:00 AM to 1:00 AM CDT).
This
established a new daily rainfall record
for June 19th. The previous record for
the date
was 1.09 inches which occurred on June
19, 1993.
During the past 48 hours as of 6:00 AM
CST (7:00 AM CDT) this morning...the
Jamaica
Beach Weather Observatory has recorded a
storm total of 4.87 inches of rainfall.
The highest daily total ever recorded
during the month of June at the Jamaica
Beach
Weather Observatory was 8.29 inches on
June 9, 2001 in association with
Tropical
Storm Allison. The highest daily total
ever recorded on any date at the Jamaica
Beach
Weather Observatory was 10.73 inches
on August 15, 2002 but was not
associated
with a tropical weather system. The
Jamaica Beach Weather Observatory has
daily
weather observation records dating back
to its establishment on December 1,
1990.
Scholes International Airport in
Galveston recorded 2.77 inches of
rainfall on Monday.
However, this fell just short of the
record total for the date of 2.99 inches
which was
recorded on June 19, 1962. The storm
total for the past 48 hours at Galveston
as of
6:00 AM CST (7:00 AM CDT) this morning
is 4.28 inches...with 1.33 inches of
this
amount falling so far today since
Midnight CST (1:00 AM CDT). Weather
records in
Galveston date back to 1871.
Additional heavy rainfall is expected
throughout the area today and additional
records
could be established. The record
rainfall for June 20th at Jamaica Beach
is 0.70 of an
inch which occurred on June 20,
1993....while the record for June 20th
at Galveston is
2.55 inches which was recorded on June
20, 1950.
