VICTORIA, TX – The Shane Sklar for U.S.
Congress campaign today noted with interest
that the company owned and operated by Ron
Paul's campaign manager, Mark Elam, has been
paid $2,435.63 by the Republican Victory
Committee to produce fear-mongering yard
signs with slogans like “Support the
Terrorists. Vote Democrat.”
“It's incredibly ironic that a highly-paid
aide to the leading anti-war Republican is
out planting fear-mongering signs in front
of Fort Bend middle schools. Ron Paul voted
against the Patriot Act, voted against
emergency supplemental funds for the war on
terror, voted against a resolution saying
we're going to prevail in the war on terror,
and even once said he wants to impeach the
president. And now his staff wants to engage
in a completely dishonest debate our
protecting our citizens? I'd call it
outrageous if it weren't so ridiculous,”
said Sklar spokeswoman Austin Bonner.
Elam has been perhaps the largest
beneficiary of Paul's term in office. The
Committee to Re-elect Ron Paul has paid
Elam's company, M Printing (also referred to
as M & M Graphics and Advertising), more
than $1 million during the last three
election cycles.
During the 1999-2000 election cycle, M
printing received $1,138,786 -- 48% of the
total expenditures for that cycle.
