Republican Randy Weber Announces Candidacy
for
Special Election in House District 29
- Former
Pearland City Councilman also announces the
endorsement of
Congresswoman Shelley Sekula-Gibbs and State
Representative Robert Talton -
Pearland,
TX – Former Pearland City Councilman and
local businessman, Randy Weber, has
announced his candidacy for the special
election to fill the vacancy left by the
late Glenda Dawson in House District 29.
“I am
honored to have served my community during
my terms on City Council, and while
presiding over the Brazoria County Cities
Association. After prayerful consideration
with my family, I have chosen to announce my
candidacy for the State Legislature in this
important special election,” Weber said. “I
am running because I believe that the voters
of District 29 deserve to have the choice of
voting for a proven, lifelong conservative
in this election. Glenda Dawson left a
large void to be filled, and I look forward
to continuing her efforts as our
Representative that served us so well.”
Weber has
been endorsed by Congresswoman Shelley
Sekula-Gibbs (R- Clear Lake), the winner of
the special election in Congressional
District 22, and also by State
Representative Robert Talton (R- Pasadena).
Weber has also gained the endorsement of
Cathie Adams from Texas Eagle Forum.
Additionally, the vast majority of GOP
precinct chairs in Brazoria County have
already endorsed Randy Weber.
“I am
honored to have the support of my good
friends Congresswoman Shelley Sekula-Gibbs
and State Representative Robert Talton in
this election. They join a growing list of
community leaders, elected officials,
Republican activists, business owners, and
school teachers who are supporting our
campaign,” Weber said. “My record of public
service and experience with the Republican
party covers three decades. I have a proven
record of conservative leadership, and I
have demonstrated my willingness to fight
for that philosophy and ideals.”
The late
Glenda Dawson was re-elected in the November
7th general election by the voters of
District 29. The vacancy she leaves will be
filled by a special election to be called by
Governor Rick Perry after the general
elections returns are certified and a
vacancy is officially declared. State
Election Code allows for this emergency
special election to be called in as few as
21 days.
Weber said,
“In this rapid election cycle, I am proud to
be able to run on my conservative record. I
currently have both Republican and Democrat
opponents who are running away from their
records, and I firmly believe that District
29 voters will be able to make the
distinction.”
Federal
Election Commission reports show that
declared Texas House District 29 GOP
candidate Mike O’Day contributed $2,000 to
Democrat Congressional candidate Shane Sklar
this year. Sklar was running against
Republican Congressman Ron Paul from
Brazoria County, which makes up the largest
portion of Texas House District 29.
Additionally, the Bay City Tribune reported
on October 23, 2006, that candidate O’Day is
being actively supported by former Democrat
State Representative Tom Uher of Bay City,
who was defeated by Glenda Dawson in 2002.
“District
29 needs a real Republican with solid
conservative views representing us in
Austin, not someone who has a history of
supporting Democrat candidates and
principles,” said Weber. “My involvement
with the Republican party goes back to 1984,
when I worked with President Ronald Reagan’s
re-election campaign, and has continued to
this recent election where I served as an
Election Judge and as a campaign worker for
the efforts to re-elect Glenda Dawson. I
have spent thousands of hours volunteering
and working on behalf of the local GOP. To
me, being a conservative Republican is more
than filing for office – it’s a
commitment.”
Randy Weber
is a small business owner in Pearland, and

in Pearland ISD for almost 20 years. The
Weber’s are the parents of 3 children and 3
grandchildren who are all products of
Pearland ISD. Randy is very active in the
Brazoria County GOP, having served as
Precinct Chair, Senatorial District 11
Permanent Chairman, State Convention
Delegate, Lincoln Day Dinner Chairman, and

in 2004.
