Bertha Mae Eaglin, 95, of Galveston
passed away Sunday, October 29, 2006 at
her Galveston residence. Mrs. Eaglin
was born January 9, 1911, in Opelousas,
Louisiana, to the late Joseph and Rosa
White Sam. She was a former business
owner for many years of a very
successful laundry business in Harlem,
New York. Mrs. Eaglin was also a home
health care provider for a number of
years serving aged and disabled
patients. She was last employed by Holy
Rosary Day Care in Galveston until aged
75 when she retired.
Mrs.
Eaglin was a faithful member of the
Athena Grand Chapter, O.E.S. of New
York, Eastern Star Service
Organization. Mrs. Eaglin joined Mt.
Olive Missionary Baptist Church, and
served on the Usher Board and the late
Rev. M.C. Battle. She was a devoted
homemaker and dedicated her life to her
family, church and friends.
Preceded in death by four brothers,
Rodney, Leroy, Roger, and Lawrence Sam
and two sisters Ethel Mae Sam, and
Dorothy Mae “Dot” Como, Mrs. Eaglin
leaves to cherish her memory; a
daughter, Elizabeth Figgins and husband
Gilbert Figgins, a son, Willie Eaglin
and wife Maye Eaglin; ten grandchildren
Janice M. Campbell and husband Preston,
Patricia Holbert and Willie, Yulonda
Pugh, Billy Pugh, Donny Ross, Curley
Ross of Fort Worth and Rosalyn, Gilbert
Anthony Figgins and Sheila, Willie Wayne
Eaglin of Houston and wife, Terry Eaglin
of China, Texas, and Loretta Carmon of
China, Texas. Mrs. Eaglin also leaves a
host great and great-great
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins,
other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Holbert, Troy
Lazare, Jr., Gilbert Anthony Figgins,
Donny Ross, Curley Ross Jr., and Willie
Eaglin. Honorary pallbearers include
Timothy Campbell, Corey Newby, Preston
Scott, Raynold Doty and Michael Como.
