Mrs.
Sylvia Gwendolyn Hodge passed from
this life Sunday, December 2, 2006,
at her home surrounded by her loving
family.
Born January 10, 1923 in Cooter,
Missouri, Mrs. Hodge had been a
resident of Hitchcock since 1984,
previously of Galveston and
Blytheville, AR. A member of Midway
Church of Christ, Mrs. Hodge had
previously worked as a sales clerk
for J.C. Penney and the Fair in
Galveston. She was a dedicated wife,
mother and grandmother who enjoyed
gardening and writing poetry.
She was preceded in death by
parents, Earley and Josie (Fortenberry)
Yarbrough; son, James Lee Hodge;
daughter-in-law, Sharon Hodge;
sisters, Viola Allmon, Olivia
Hodge, Ima Jean Haynes and a
brother, Eddie Yarbrough.
Survivors include her devoted
husband of over 68 years,
William Hodge of Hitchcock; sons
and daughters-in-law, Wayne and
Wanda Hodge of Santa Fe, David
Hodge of Oakridge, TX, Thomas
Jerry and Margaret Hodge of
Conroe; daughter and son-in-law,
Mary Ann and Bennie Counts of
Orange, TX; brother and
sister-in-law, Charles and Ruby
Yarbrough of Quinlan, TX; sister
and brother-in-law, Betty Jo and
Doyle Tippings of Irving; 17
grandchildren; 24
great-grandchildren and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be
conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday,
December 6, 2006, in the chapel
of Hayes Funeral Home with Mr.
Russell McLaughlin, Mr. Bryan
Hodge and Mr. Michael Green
officiating. Interment will
follow at Grace Memorial Park
Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Ricky Green,
Paul Henderson, James Hodge, John
Hodge, Kevin Hodge, and Shaun Hodge.
