Frederic
Allan Mann, 81, passed away November 5,
2006 at Gulf Health Care Center in
Galveston, Texas.
Funeral
services will be held at 11:00 am,
Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at Carnes
Brothers Funeral Home, 1201 Tremont,
Galveston, Texas, with Dr. George Ramsey
officiating. Graveside services will
follow at Galveston Memorial Park in
Hitchcock, Texas. The family will
receive visitors from 5:00 to 8:00 pm,
Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at the funeral
home.
Fred was born December 6, 1924 to
Frederic R. and Cathlyn Donnelly Mann in
Houston, Texas. Moving to Galveston at
an early age. He attended the Galveston
Catholic Schools including Kirwin High
School and was drafted into the U.S.
Army in his senior year and served
during WW II until honorably discharged
November 2, 1943, and then earned his
G.E.D. He also joined the National Guard
April, 1952 and honorably discharged
January, 1953. He was a member of
University Baptist Church where he was a
member of the choir, served as usher,
participated in a number of mission
trips and was involved in the “Young At
Heart Club”. He was also a member of
Eagles Aire #48, American Legion Post
#20 and was retired from the
Galveston-Port Bolivar Ferry after 11
years of dedicated service. He was a
volunteer at UTMB after his retirement
until his health began to fail. He
enjoyed singing in his easily recognized
tenor voice in various groups including
Barber Shop Quartets. He was a loving
and dedicated husband, father and
grandfather. His generosity and
big-hearted nature impacted all who knew
and met him and will be greatly
remembered and sadly missed.
Preceded in death by his wife Evelyn
Lewis Mann, Mr. Mann is survived by his
daughters, Milta Jean Gomez Gilmore and
husband, Richard Lee of Rockville,
Maryland and Gladys Cathlyn Flanagan and
husband, devoted son- in-law Robert of
Galveston; son, John Allan Mann of
Galveston; grandchildren, Kelly Marie
Flanagan, Bobby Lee Flanagan, Stephen
John Gomez, Bethany Grace Gomez, Johnny
Joe Gomez, Jr., Eddie Lawrence Gomez,
Alicia Irma Gomez and Tommy Gene Gomez;
7 great grandchildren; numerous nieces,
nephews, other relatives and many
friends.
Pallbearers will be John A. Mann, Robert
L. Flanagan, Bobby Lee Flanagan, Stephen
John Gomez, Eddie Lawrence Gomez and
Tommy Gene Gomez. Honorary pallbearers
are Donald Flanagan and Toby Smith.
