Jack and LaVerne Orem

Jack Raymond Orem, Sr., 90, and LaVerne Brandon Orem, 86, formerly of Santa Fe, TX, passed away peacefully in their sleep on July 2, 2006 in Pearland, TX.  Jack at approx. 4:00 a.m. and LaVerne at approx. 8:00 p.m. 

Jack was born and raised in Arcadia, TX where he and LaVerne resided until Jack's retirement.  During WWII, he served his country in the US Coast Guard, was a distributor for the Galveston Daily News for 30 years, was first appointed deputy constable of Pct 4 Galveston County on October 23, 1956, where he served approx. 16 years as Deputy Constable, was elected Constable in June 1976 and retired January 1, 1985 as Constable after serving the community for 24 years. 

LaVerne, born in Alvin, TX, was a wife and homemaker, dedicating her life to her home and family.  She was the last "Gold Star Mother" at the VFW Post #5400 in Santa Fe.

Jack and LaVerne married June 29, 1939 in Galveston, TX and recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.

A son, Allen Orem who was killed in Vietnam and twin daughters, Mary and Martha Orem, preceded them in death.

Survivors include their children; Jack R. Orem, Jr. and wife, Judy of San Antonio, Shirley Cole and husband, Charles of Dickinson, Barbara Griffin and husband, Gerald of Pearland, Joyce Campbell and husband, Calvin of Nacogdoches, Peggy Burrow and husband, Doug of St. Augustine, Edythe Holder of McGregor, Herbert Orem and wife, Barbara of Santa Fe, Judy Trevillion and husband, Robert of Manvel, grandchildren; Dawn Ritter and husband, Carl, Michele Langer and husband, Thomas, Rikki Kief and husband Mike, Lisa Sowers
and husband Terry, Lauri Lee and husband, Gary, Lesly Holzhauer and husband, Scott, Lacey Bradshaw and husband Steven, Michael Schaeper and wife, LaDawn, Brandi Wilson and husband Sam, James Allen Holder, Derreck Holder, Herbert Orem, Jr. and wife Erin, Jeremi Schlageter and husband Cody, Jason Piazza and wife Stephanie, Thomas Piazza, great-grandchildren; Jack Ritter, Katherine Ritter, Brooke Langer, Lindsay Kief, Ryan Kief, Lauren Williamson, Clayton Williamson, Hunter Lee, Logan Lee, Dlan Holzhauer, Madison Bradshaw, Kaylee Schaeper, Aaron Schaeper, Alyssa Schaeper, Jonathon Wilson, Ty Orem, Mason Schlageter, Emma Piazza, Sadie Piazza, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

LaVerne is also survived by two sisters, Jeanette Elliott of League City, and Dorothy Wilson of Santa Fe.

The family will remember their parent's and grandparent's strength, dignity, and love for each other always.  The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Trinity Oaks of Pearland for the loving care of their parents and grandparents and to the Hospice Care Team of Lake Jackson.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2006, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Reverend Ray Cox officiating.  Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be, Doug Burrows, Calvin Campbell, Charles Cole, Gerald Griffin, Robert Trevillion and Jasper Unger, Jr.
