Maria Raquel Ramos age 71 of Galveston died Sunday, December 10, 2006 at her residence in Galveston. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, December 14, 2006 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Paul Benet celebrant. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home where a Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm.

Maria was born February 22, 1935 in Zacatecas, Mexico to Salvador Valdez and Maria Rodarte Valdez. Raised by her grandparents, Juan Francisco and Catalina Valdez, Mrs. Ramos was a devoted mother and grandmother. She cared for many neighborhood children as her own and always put the kids ahead of herself. She loved soccer and boxing and was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and was a faithful Roman Catholic.

Preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Cristobal “Tola” R. Ramos, Maria is survived by her son, Juan C. Ramos and wife Zoila; daughters, Leticia “Lettie” Ramos, Alejandra “Alex” R. Wilson, Concepcion “Connie” R. Mirelez, Altagracia “Gracie” Ramos, Janie Ramos all of Galveston and Maria R. Riojas, of McAllen, Texas; 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, numerous, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends from Galveston to McAllen and Mexico.

Pallbearers are Wardermar Mercado, Joseph Wilson, David E. Mirelez, Micaela Mirelez, Corrine Wev, and Lindsey Wev. Honorary pallbearers are Tony Riojas, Emelio Riojas, Rosie Wilson and Dina Ramos.
