Please find attached the recently
tabulated 2006 certified values for both
the market and net taxable value of
properties for the City and properties
west of the Seawall.
Document
The unincorporated area is Pirates
Beach/Cove.
The market values reflect the value of
both profit and non-profit properties.
The net taxable value represents only
the profit commercial and residential
properties.
We have heard stories about the
non-taxable non-profit properties in the
City at 50% to 55%, which was true a few
years back. However, values of
commercial and residential properties
have increased tremendously the past few
years and the percentage of non-taxable
non-profit properties is now 40% (100%
less $3,677,506,815/$6,161,065,181).
Last year we (west end) were 33%
of the Galveston tax base but
this year we are close to 38%.
We are growing and we will
continue to seek the types of
services necessary for this
important tax base area.
We need more registered voters
in the west end to get our
message across to City and
County officials. We only have
20% permanent residents but
there is a way for weekenders to
vote in elections. We need one
spouse of a household to
register in Galveston and the
other to keep their voter
registration where they are
domiciled. Your vote means more
in Galveston than it does in
large metroplexes like Houston
and Dallas. Votes count and
make a difference here.
Let me know if you have any
questions or where I can be of
assistance.
