CJ Day at the Park

by Sharron Graves
October 17, 2006

HI! I hope that you can help us by placing this attached information into the next issue of the Guidry News.

You will recall a tragic car accident last December 10 when a drunk driver rear-ended a carload of Bay Area teens, killing two girls and injuring three more young people. The drunk driver is now in jail for 46 years, and two of the injured students have recovered well.

The third, however, is severely disabled as a result of brain injuries that he suffered in the accident. His name is CJ Duffey. Medical expenses have crippled his family's finances. CJ, now 13, can neither walk nor talk. Both his parents have been forced to relinquish their jobs to care for him, and they have two other children. Friends have arranged a fundraising concert to help support the family as they struggle to negotiate medical problems and to refashion their lives.

Enclosed are details about the "CJ Day at the Park" on November 19 from 12-6pm at Landolt Pavilion at Clear Lake Park. We appeal to you to help us draw community support by helping to promote the concert and publicize the attached sponsorship options. Although the accident has long since passed from the news pages, for CJ's family the tragedy remains an ongoing crisis.

Attached is the flyer that I have been circulating with sponsor ship information for the fundraiser, with a small flyer that we will be sending out to the school via students. Flyer

I have also enclosed a photo of the car the kids were in, this is a daylight photo and shows the devastation that this caused.

Notice where the muffler is, this is where the back of the car should have been.

Please use this if you feel that it will help, just realize there are 5 families involved and this has been very difficult for all of us. Especially those whose daughters were killed.

We hope that all of our generous neighbors of Clear Lake and the Bay Area will come out in support of this family. They are indeed in great need.

Donations are being accepted at all branches of the JSC Federal Credit Union- CJ Duffey Benefit Account # 1057667 call direct 281-488-7070

Sincerely, and with high hopes!

Sharron Graves
