Special Heavy Rainfall and Record Report

...Torrential rainfall on western Galveston Island including the
city of Jamaica Beach...
Slow moving thunderstorms with torrential rainfall have been
affecting the western part
of Galveston Island early this afternoon.
During the past 2 hours...the Jamaica Beach Weather Observatory
(JBHT2) has
recorded 3.01 inches of rainfall with 2.83 inches of that falling
within a 1 hour period.
The daily total since Midnight CST (1:00 AM CDT) is now 3.06
inches...which sets
a new daily rainfall record for the date. The previous record was
1.62 inches which
occurred on September 9, 1994.
Minor street flooding has been reported at some locations on
Galveston Island. Please
drive with extreme caution due to high water and reduced visibility
in heavy rainfall.
