WASHINGTON—U.S.
Sen. John Cornyn made the following
statement Monday regarding the fifth
anniversary of the Sept. 11th terrorist
attacks:
“Today we
mark the fifth anniversary of those who
died in the September 11, 2001 terrorist
attacks and we remember the nearly 3,000
innocent Americans who perished on that
fateful day. Our thoughts and prayers
are with their families and loved ones,
and with the men and women serving on
our front lines who are working to
ensure that they did not die in vain.
“September
11th was a day that changed
the world forever, and it is important
that we learn from it. We owe to the
victims, to their survivors – and to
every American – to recommit ourselves
to fight and win this war that threatens
to kill more Americans both here and
abroad. We will remain vigilant. And we
will always remember those who lost
their lives. What we owe future
generations is to meet the challenge of
this threat and to live up to the test
presented us by this new kind of enemy.
“My hope
for the days and weeks ahead is that
Congress will continue taking the
necessary steps to make America safer.
Today however, we remember, we reflect
and we offer a renewed, determined
commitment to win the war on terror and
to honor the memories of those who lost
their lives five years ago.”
