On Tuesday, January 9, 2007, God
looked down upon "Georgie Boy"
and said, "Well done, George, my
good and faithful servant.
Through Grace and mercy I have a
promise of eternal life to you
that begins on this day, at this
moment." It was then that "Georgie
Boy" went to sleep in the arms
of his Lord and Savior, Jesus
Christ.
Reverend George DeWayne Jenkins
was born July 5, 1964. He was
the fifth of five children born
to
Chester
and Dorothy Jenkins in
Dickinson,
Texas. At an early age, he was baptized at
Mount
Olive
Baptist
Church
in
Dickinson,
Texas. George moved to
Galveston
as a young man where he met and
married Felecia Session on July
6, 1987. This marriage lovingly
nurtured four children and
lasted 19 year, until his
death. During this time, George
worked for some years as a Floor
Technician and later he received
his license as an ordained
minister at
Progressive
Missionary
Baptist
Church in
Galveston,
Texas under the leadership of Reverend Herman
Lewis. George became a member
of
Macedonia
Baptist
Church under the leadership of Reverend A. W. Colbert
and later he joined St. Luke
Missionary Baptist Church in
Galveston,
Texas under the leadership of Reverend Charles
E. Wheat.
George was preceded in death by
his parents; Chester Jenkins
Sr., and Dorothy Dixon Jenkins.
His life will be celebrated in
blessed remembrance by four
children, Georlisa, Shante,
George Jr. and Dante
Jenkins and one granddaughter,
LaTreasure Gongora. Other
survivors include three sisters,
Linda Curl (Mike) and Pam (C.
W.) Reed of Dickinson, Texas and
Almetra (Holland) Jones of
Galveston; three brothers,
Chester Jr. of Dickinson;
Gregory Jenkins (Faye) of Clear
Lake and Lester DeRouen (Karen)
of DeSoto, Texas. Also
remembering him are his
adoptive moms, Elizabeth (John)
Mack; Mama Pearl Underwood of
Galveston, Texas and Eva Spencer
of Dickinson, Texas;
sisters-in-law, Mary Session and
Shirley Reagins of Galveston,
Texas; brother-in-law James
Session; uncles, Otis (Roberta);
Mike (Annette); Leslie (Jean)
and R. D. (Ruby) Jenkins; aunts,
Gertrude Rollins and Irene
(George) Goffney; Audrey
(Archie) Walker; Alice (Raymond)
Jones of Texas City and Elvina
(C. B.) Thompsn of Ocean Side,
California; grand-uncle, affectionately known
as Uncle Big A. and a host of
nieces, nephews other relatives
and friends.
Visitation will be held at Wynn
Funeral Home on Sunday, January
14, 2007 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
followed by a wake, also at the
funeral home from 5:00 to 6:00
p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at
11:00 a.m. on Monday, January
15, 2007, at St. Luke Missionary
Baptist Church. Reverend
Charles E. Wheat will
officiate. Burial will follow
at
Lakeview
Cemetery in
Galveston.
