Lynda Guidry - Publisher

Lynda became a journalist when she married Jim in 1996.

Lynda's previous career was as an independent interior designer specializing in adaptive reuse of urban properties, condominium conversions, commercial and institutional projects and public art.

Upon returning to Texas in 1992 and movng to Galveston Island in 1993 she contracted to do marketing research for several oil and gas companies on the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast and prior to taking on GNS' management and marketing responsibilities in 1999, she worked for the Galveston Chamber of Commerce as Director of Membership Services.

Lynda coined the term "Webio Journalism" in 1997.

Jim Guidry - 1942 - 2016

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our owner and publisher, Jim Guidry on January 21, 2016. Jim was a hands-on, veteran newsman who built his career and the business that carries his name on his sterling reputation for fairness and insistence on honesty, both in his long body of work and in his personal and professional relationships.

Jim established Guidry News Service on July 8, 1996 in Galveston, Texas.

His resume includes more than 40 years in broadcast journalism in Houston and Galveston; as well as six years of service to the City of Houston, where he established the Public Information Office for the Department of Public Works and later became special assistant to then Mayor Jim McConn; and one year as Governmental Liaison for the Galveston Economic Development Corporation.

Garrett Bryce - Managing Editor

Garrett Bryce came to Guidry News Service with a solid background in print journalism as well as experience in public information.

In addition to management and editing positions at the Alvin Sun-Advertiser, the Pearland and Friendswood Journals and, he also served as a public information officer in the Pearland Independent School District.

Garrett works closely with the administrative personnel of the entities we cover. His upbeat personality, professional ability and work ethic make him a delight to be associated with.

John David Suayan - Reporter/Editor
John David is a lifelong Galvestonian. His path toward a journalism career began when he was in the eighth grade. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and his professional experience includes stints with The Pasadena Citizen and The Southeast Texas Record.

John David is a huge fan of the Houston Texans and the Houston Rockets. He loves to eat and considers his headphones a part of his body.
Lora-Marie Bernard - Reporter/Editor

Lora-Marie Bernard is an experienced, award-winning investigative and public affairs reporter. She has worked for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Houston Chronicle and other Texas legacy news outlets. She reported for Guidry News Service as a pioneer of Webio journalism, covering Galveston County, the Port of Houston and other regional bodies for GNS.

During her journalism career she has received the Robert F. Kennedy award for social reporting and earned honors for investigative and public affairs journalism from the National Newspaper Association, the Associated Press Managing Editors Association and the Dallas Press Club.

She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of North Texas, studied non-profit business at Duke and Harvard universities and has used that training as executive director of environmental and educational non-profits.

Lora-Marie currently heads her own consulting firm, Bernard NPMS, and is pursuing post-baccalaureate graduate work in journalism at Harvard University.

She believes America needs quality journalism to keep it a vibrant democracy and a great place to live.

Robert John Mihovil - Photographer

Robert is a Galveston/Houston freelance photographer whose work has achieved national recognition through its use in news and general interest publications, advertisements, annual reports, illustrated brochures, membership directories, political campaigns, travel guides and web sites.

He has served as a special photographic consultant to Guidry News Service since the establishment of

Juan Peña - Contributor / Photographer

Juan is a long time friend to Guidry News. He is known throughout Galveston County and especially his beloved Galveston Island for his interest in good governance and public service. He has served as a Galveston city council member, has had a career in medical radiology and is currently a Galveston County Sheriff's Deputy.

Juan appreciates the many opportunities on the Island to volunteer for worthy causes and to enjoy his beautiful and fun-loving home town.

We truly appreciate Juan's contributions to our publications. Everyone smiles when they see him, mostly because of his warm personality, but also because he's likely to share his photos for publication on!

Ruth Ann Ruiz - Contributor / Photographer

Ruth Ann Ruiz recently began her tenure as a contributor to Guidry News. She has written for The Galveston County Daily News, Tucson Lifestyles Magazine, and The Tucson Citizen. She is the author of Coping with the Death of a Brother or Sister and co-author of Teen Mental, Health, Self-Esteem. She served as an intern with CBS affiliate KOLD and NBC affiliate, KVOA in Southern Arizona.

Ruth graduated Cum Laude from the University of Arizona. She holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. Ruth has twice been a candidate for the United States Foreign Service and has an extensive portfolio in commercial and editorial modeling. She is a photojournalist and fine art photographer.

Her four grown children live and work across the country and she has been blessed with five grandchildren.

Her love of Southern Hospitality, history, sailing, seafood, sea air, seashells, sea everything brought her to the Coastal Region of Texas.
