July 04, 2008 -- The Fourth of July Parade in Downtown Galveston was followed by a Fourth of July Celebration in the Galveston Island Railroad Museum. More

June 06, 2008 -- A new character from Galveston’s African American history will be seen for the first time in the sixth annual Underground Railroad program on Thursday, June 12 in Kempner Park. Pierce Harper, who settled in Galveston after he was liberated from slavery, will be portrayed by St. Vincent’s House Director Michael Jackson. More
June 06, 2008 -- Prairie View A&M University will host a Juneteenth Celebration on June 18 to commemorate the emancipation of African American slaves in Texas and across the United States. The event will feature Al Edwards who sponsored legislation establishing Juneteenth as a State holiday. More
June 04, 2008 -- As part of Galveston’s annual Juneteenth activities, a brief reception and dedication was held on the grounds of Ashton Villa today at 11:15 a.m., marking the installation of a lighting system for the larger-than-life-sized statue commemorating the enactment of Juneteenth as an official Texas state holiday. More
