Mr. James "Wardell" McCoy went into eternal rest on Sunday, December 31, 2006 , at UTMB John Sealy Hospital, after a short illness. He was born on January 2, 1953 in Galveston to Dortherine Smith and Nelson McCoy. He was a graduate of Ball High School and worked as a Merchant Marine, warehouse personnel and Environmental Services at UTMB.
In 1976 he met and wed Lillar White. Out of this marriage two children were born, a son, James White and a daughter Tra'Shawnda White.
His mother, Dortherine Smith Bright, grandmother Hazel Smith, and uncle James Smith Jr., preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his life is his son James (Lisa) White of Houston, Texas; his daughter Tra'Shawnda (Xavier, Sr.) Woodkins of Texas City,Texas; his father, Nelson W. McCoy III of Houston, Texas; his brother, Nelson (Mary) McCoy, IV of LaMarque, Texas and two sisters, Lois (Odis) Booker of Kirbyville, Texas and Deborah A. McCoy-Simpson of Texas City, Texas. He also left behind six beloved grandchildren: DaAndre Joe-White, Christopher White, Xavier, Trevor and D'asia Woodkins and Nicholas Barrett; nieces; Rhonda Booker, Shalondria and LaShondria Simpson and Tiffany McCoy; nephews; Robert (Shannon) Simpson, Jr.; Marlon (Koya) Simpson; Nelson McCoy V., and Brandon McCoy.; aunts; Viola (Reverend Ralph) Cummins; Helen Wilcox; Mildred Brazil and Rose Monroe; devoted ex-wife, Lillar McCoy; devoted friends; Pandora Johns; Eddie McNeil; Sharon Conley and Sharon Florence; devoted sisters-in-law; Jo Ann McCoy and Wanda Holmes; devoted cousins; Gail Boyd; Douglas Jones and a host of othe relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2007, followed by a wake from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wynn Funeral Home, 602-32nd Street, Galveston, Texas, 409/621-1677.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Avenue L Baptist Church, 2612 Avenue L, Galveston, Texas with the Reverend Mark Cummins officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston, Texas.
