Mrs. Irene Janice passed from this life Saturday morning, January 20, 2007 in Texas City.

Born February 17, 1930 in Arcadia, Mrs. Janice was a lifelong resident.  She was a nurse for 40 years and retired from UTMB after 10 years, was a member of the Rebekah Lodge where she was past Noble Grand and also helped at St. Mary’s Basilica in Galveston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Julia Newlin; brother Jesse Newlin; sisters, Lois Tully and Alma Merchant.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Cindy Janice of Dickinson, Wayne Janice of Texas City, Robert and Lynda Janice of Santa Fe; brother, Ray Newlin; sister, Francis Cole; grandchildren, Kenneth and Wendi Janice, Stephanie Bell, Darlene and Eric Glover, Nichlos Quesada, Jonathon Quesada, Donte` Davis, Nicole Janice and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic Basilica with Reverend John N. La Bauve as celebrant.  Interment will follow at Confederate Cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

Casketbearers will be Louis Tully, Scott Wilbanks, Jared Wilbanks, Larry Carrell, Rex Carrell and Norris Smith.  Honorary bearers will be Jonathon Quesada and Nichlos Quesada.
