Leila Walters Hagen, “Lee”,  84,  passed away Sunday, February 4, 2007 at her home in Galveston, Texas.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 16, 2007 at Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church with Reverend Bert Bagley and Reverend Charles Bagley officiating.

Lee was born June 9, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan to Vernon Walters and Hilda Goodfellow Walters.  Lee graduated from Northwestern High School in Detroit and received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Wayne State University.  She married the love of her life, Reed H. Hagen in 1945 while he was home on a 30 day furlough. She taught in the Detroit Public School System for 8 years.

Mrs. Hagen was a member of Pi Lambda Theta, the Education Honor Society at Wayne State and served as a member of Wayne’s Alumni Board.  She was a faithful member of Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church where she served on numerous boards and committees, most recently the Edgewater Auxiliary and the Christian Life Center Board.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, her parents and four brothers.  Survivors include her daughter Judy DiMarco and grandsons Ben and Luke DiMarco of Galveston; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Betty and Jim Hagen of Bradenton Florida, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

Memorials may be sent to  the Leila Walters Hagen Annual Scholarship, Wayne State University, Beecher House, 5475 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI  48202    ATTN:  Chuck Loose.
