Steve Vincent Garibaldi

Mr. Steve Vincent Garibaldi passed from this life Tuesday morning, February 20, 2007, in Nassau Bay.

Born November 25, 1925 in Galveston, Mr. Garibaldi had been a lifelong resident of Santa Fe.  He had been employed as a Railroad Car Inspector with the GH & H Galveston/Henderson Terminal, having started working with Southern Pacific Railroad and ending with Union Pacific Rail Road where he retired after 34 ½ years of service.  He served in the US Navy during WWII where he served aboard Steamer Bay-CVE 87 aircraft carrier, was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, a life member of VFW Post #5400 and had worked for Southern Select (Falstaff) Brewery in Galveston.

He was preceded in death by his son, George Garibaldi; grandsons, Kenneth Lee Downard, Jr. and Keith Thomas Downard; parents, August and Marie (Bergman) Garibaldi; brothers, John, Robert, August and Frank Garibaldi; sisters, Caroline Gentsch, Rosie Fields, Orelena Chide, and Matilda Coyde.

Survivors include his loving wife of over 36 years, Anne Garibaldi; children, Steven H. Garibaldi and wife, Beth of Bear, DE, Kenneth L. Downard and wife, JoAnn of Dickinson, Richard Downard and wife, Janet of Bellingham, WA, Ronald King of Omaha, NE, Patricia King Leiez of San Jose, CA, Sharon King Hennessey of Dallas; 18 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Edith Warren of Galveston, Marie Garibaldi of Texas City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 23, 2007, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Reverend John Kappe officiating.  Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Frank Chapman, Gerald Ciabattoni, Jesse Ciabattoni, Clay Eversole, Les Helton and Mike Ladd.  Honorary bearer will be Shawn Garibaldi and Sgt. William Vincent Garibaldi, USMC, Iraq.

Friends may call from 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501.
