Guy E. "Dick" Bates, Jr.Mr. Guy E. (Dick) Bates, Jr. passed from this life Thursday, February 22, 2007, at his home.


Born February 14, 1920 in Fort Worth, Mr. Bates had been a resident of Santa Fe for 36 years, previously of Houston.  He had been employed as a cement mason with Local 681 in Houston, served in the US Navy during WWII and was a member of the VFW Post #5400 in Hitchcock and the Santa Fe Senior Citizens.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy E. and Teresa (Palmo) Bates; wives Margarie and Janice; daughter, Bonnie Clarice Mundell; sister, Mary Elizabeth Krause and cousin Teresa Cargile.


Survivors include his children and their spouses, Richard A. and Kimberly Patterson of Arcadia, Bonnie A. and Ronnie Cobb of Arcadia; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.


Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 26, 2007, at Arcadia First Baptist Church, Dr. Rick Smith officiating.  Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.


Casketbearers will be Richard A. Patterson, Jr., Morgan E. Patterson, Jim Cargile, Anthony Cargile, Rick Palmo and Danny Patterson. Honorary casketbearers will be Michael Patterson and Tyler Patterson.


Friends may call from 3 - 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501.


Those who wish may make memorials in the form of donations to the Thelma Webber Senior Citizen’s Center.
