Arancie Holt Gayden Arancie Holt Gayden of Galveston, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at Turner Geriatric Center in Galveston, Texas, after living to reach the blessed age of 105 years, eleven months and twelve days.

Born in Logansport, LA on March 22, 1901. She was married to the Rev. Jesse Gayden when they moved to Galveston, Texas in 1934, with their four children. The fifth child, Richard was born in Galveston. Mrs. Gayden was an active member of Shiloh A.M.E. Church and was affectionately known as "Mother Gayden". She was a loving, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, aunt and friend. She attributed her longevity to obedience to God and her mother. She enjoyed cooking, reading the Bible and attending family functions and activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four of her newborn children, husband, Rev. Jesse Gayden; daughter, Alice M. Brown; son, Joseph Gayden; sister, Willie Stringer; brother, William Holt and great grandson, Michael Brown, Jr..
She leaves to cherish precious memories of a wonderful and blessed life with her daughter, Corine "Cokie" Harris of Galveston; sons, Willie Gayden (Bessie) of Texas City, Richard Gayden of Galveston; daughter in law, Mary Gayden; nine grandchildren, Phyllis Thomas, Mary A. Selvy, Michael A. Brown all of Stockton, CA,  Mark N. Brown of Pearland, TX, Renee Stovall, Theretta Miller both of Galveston, Rev. Cassandra Magee Mkwanazi of Texas City; Anthony Gayden and Cheryl Gayden both of Houston, TX; 19 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren; nieces Louise Walker (Frazier) and Thelma Stringer; caregiver, Lucille Armstead; a host of other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held from 3-5PM Sunday, March 11th at E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary, with a memorial service held from 6-8PM at the Shiloh AME Church. A service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, March 12, 2007, at the Shiloh A.M.E. Church with Rev. Myra Billips, officiating, Rev. Eric Billips, eulogist. She will be laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be James Selvy, Charles Dorsey, Alvin Greenbury, Mark Brown, N. Jordan Mkwanazi II, Kenneth Hicks, Terrell McNeal, Earl Stearns and James Briggs.
