SANTA FE - Constable Charles D. Gay, better known as "Skip" passed peacefully from this life Friday morning, March 30, 2007, at his home surrounded by his family, friends and with his dog, Daisey at his side.

Born July 15, 1940 in McRae, Arkansas, Skip had been a resident of Santa Fe for 43 years, previously of Pasadena. He had supported his family for 22 years as a carpenter before his love for public service took over. He worked as a reserve officer for the Galveston County Sheriff's Department for several years, was deputy constable of precinct 4 under Jack Orem and was elected Constable of Galveston County Precinct 4 in 1983, a position he would hold until his death. Always known for his sense of humor and calm demeanor, Skip was a friend to many and helped countless thousands throughout his life. He was a member of the Methodist faith, the Democratic Club in Santa Fe, an honorary member of the FOE Aerie # 3789 in Santa Fe and enjoyed spending time with his dog, Daisey and riding his beloved Smoke, affectionately known as "The Wonder Horse".

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Irma and Robert "Curley" Branum, and is survived by his loving wife of over 35 years, Dolores Gay; children, Rick Turrentine, Ronny Turrentine, Randy Turrentine and wife, Mary all of Santa Fe, Anita Weldon and husband, Cody of Houston, Lisa David and husband, Jerrel of Santa Fe, Pamela Secades and husband, Rio of Katy; grandchildren, Meredith, Karissa, Kandace, Shawna, Ashley, Randy Steven, Rush, Alex, Darby, Shelby and Greyson; great-grandchildren, Mason, Marissa, Haze, Jagger and Audrey.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at First Baptist Church of Alta Loma with Pastor Del Toler officiating. Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

Casketbearers will be Skip's deputies, Cliff Larimore, Russell Noel, Johnny Ochoa, J. R. Patterson, Mike Todaro and Joyce Vail. Honorary bearers will be David Culbreath, Rudy Flores, Linda Radicioni, Joe Scrofne and Jolene White.

Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Monday at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501.

Skip's family would like to express a special thank you to Russell Noel and Molly Snipe for their love and care for Skip and for always being there for him.

Those who wish to honor Skip's memory may consider a memorial in the form of a donation to the Skip Gay Memorial Fund, c/o Texas First Bank Santa Fe.
