Frank William “Bill” Walker III, 79, of La Marque, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City. Mr. Walker was born on April 26, 1927, to Frank and Ora Lee Walker, in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. He was a resident of La Marque since 1955, and formerly of Galveston.
Bill finished school in Berlin Heights, Ohio and joined the navy at eighteen. After his service career he worked as a bricklayer in Ohio before moving to Galveston. Bill helped build Ball High School in Galveston, Texas City High School and several churches including First Baptist of La Marque where he was a faithful member for over fifty years.
Bill retired in 1992, from the City of La Marque Police Department, as a sergeant after 27 years of service where he was affectionately known as “Sarge”. Bill’s ability to make people laugh and smile will be forever in our memories. Bill’s life touched many lives and he will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Bill enjoyed serving on the kitchen committee at his church with his wife Mollie. He was preceded in death by parents; and his sisters, Frances Shaw, Dorothy Duncan, Betty Baker and Anne Sudomier.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Mollie Trimble Walker of La Marque; two sons, Billy Walker IV and Douglas Walker, both of La Marque; two step-daughters, Bonnie Powell of Zephyrhills, FL and Laura Young and her husband Grant of Tampa, FL; step-son, Kevin Downey of Corvallis, OR; his sister, Mildred Homolya of Berlin Heights, OH; his brother, Jack Walker and his wife Mary of Pasadena, TX; and two grandchildren, BJ Walker and Tiffany Walker.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, April 13, 2007, from 6:00 p.m. til 8:00 p.m, at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 14, 2007, at 10:00am, at the First Baptist Church, 821 Laurel, La Marque, with Rev. David Smith and Rev. Irving Cook, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock.
Pallbearers will be Steve Baker, Jerry Walker, Grant Young, Don McClellen, Raymond McClellen and Will Brandon.
