The Return of Specialist Eddie Tamez

Friends, family and supporters of the United States troops who are fighting the War on Terror turned out at Scholes International Airport at Galveston today for the arrival of the body of Specialist Eddie Tamez who was killed on Friday, April 25, 2007, in Fallujah, Iraq, while serving with Delta Company, 3rd Combat Support Battalion of 5th Squadron, 7th U.S. Calvary Regiment under 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division from Fort Stewart, Georgia

Many in the group accompanied the procession from the airport to Malloy & Son Funeral Home.  Robert Shumake, who frequently displays the United States Flag on Seawall Boulevard, was among the crowd at the airport and outside the funeral home.  Listen Download

"This is the first (war death) in Galveston that I know of," Shumake said.  "We need to do whatever we can to show our support.  He was 21 years old.  God bless him.  God bless him and his family." 

The family will have a visitation at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1010 35th St., beginning with a Rosary. The funeral will be at noon Saturday at St. Patrick Church. Tamez will be buried at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Obituary
