WINE STROLL SET IN CONJUNCTION WITH GALVESTON HISTORIC HOMES TOUR, SATURDAY EVENING, MAY 12

Galveston Uncorked! the historic downtown’s annual wine stroll, is scheduled for May 12 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sponsored by the Historic Downtown Galveston Partnership, the popular five-year-old wine event is being held this year in conjunction with the 33rd Annual Galveston Historic Homes Tour.

Tickets are limited and cost $35 in advance and $45 at the gate. Advance tickets may be purchased by calling 409-765-7834 or going online at www.galvestonhistory.org. Beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, patrons may purchase tickets at event headquarters, Edna’s Room, at the Grand Opera House, 2018 Postoffice Street. Island casual attire is welcome.

Twenty different downtown merchants will open their doors to wineries from Texas, California, Italy, Spain, New Zealand, Australia, South America, and many more locales. Attendees will be able to sample two to four wines from a single vintner at each location on the downtown stroll. After tasting several, if guests so choose, they may place orders for their favorites with vintner representatives available at each of the wine-tasting locations.

Clay Wade, director of events for Galveston Historical Foundation, said Galveston Uncorked! and the Historic Homes Tour are two events that fit together well.

"Guests spend a day in our historic neighborhoods touring wonderful restored homes. At the end of that day, they go to our beautifully restored downtown, where two of the Historic Homes Tour properties are located, moving into the evening with a wine stroll and maybe dinner at one of our downtown’s many excellent restaurants."

Participating merchants include clothing stores, art galleries, antique stores, and specialty gift shops. Last year’s event was a sellout, with 800 guests to Galveston’s restored historic downtown taking part in the evening’s events. The event will take place rain or shine.
