Juneteenth Events This Weekend

Juneteenth activities this weekend include Gospel Fest tonight at the Charles T. Doyle Convention Center in Texas City, a parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Texas City and a barbecue cookoff, talent show, basketball tournament and other activities at Rotary Pavilion and Nessler Park. More

Galveston Historical Foundation will hold a dedication ceremony for Rosewood Cemetery, Galveston's oldest African-American burial grounds, on Saturday. More

On Saturday the Stringfellow Orchard Juneteeth Family Day will be held on Samuel and Doris Collins' property in Hitchcock.  Events begin at noon. More

At 6 p.m. the Varner-Hogg Juneteenth Memorial and Sugar Mill Rededication Ceremony will be held at the Varner-Hogg Plantation State Historic Site in West Columbia.More

The Houston Juneteenth Health Fair is Saturday in Tom Bass Park. More

Juneteenth, the celebration of the arrival of the Emancipation Proclamation in Galveston, is on Tuesday, June 19.  Numerous events are scheduled that day.
