South Pacific opens Galveston Island’s 2007 Season
The Galveston Island Musicals opens it’s 2007 season, Wednesday, July 4 in the beautiful Galveston Island Convention Center at the San Luis Resort with Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical South Pacific. This legendary production, which takes place on a paradise Island, is ideal for the new Gulf coast location. The show runs through July 22.
Starring in the opening show is Broadway star, Rob Gallagher who is best known to New York theater buffs as Javert in Broadway’s Les Miserables. He will be playing Emile Debecque, the French plantation owner who is the love interest of nurse Nellie Forbash. South Pacific, based on the book Tales of the South Pacific by James A. Michener, takes place on a Pacific island during the Second World War, where nurse Nellie Forbush and Liertentant Cable, a young marine on a dangerous
mission, both fall in love with local residents. Prejudice casts its shadow over both romances, and even these two loving hearts have lessons of tolerance and understanding to learn.
The Galveston Island Musicals’ production of South Pacific is directed by New York Director Cailin Heffenan who also is no stranger to Broadway, having performed in twelve different Broadway shows. She is currently one of the most popular off-Broadway directors in New York.
Choreographing the show is Marie Danvers who has been playing Christine in Broadway’s Phantom of the Opera for the last three years. Heffernan, Danvers and Gallagher are all alumnae of the Galveston Island Musicals and they have returned to help launch the new 2007 season in the new location.
