Vertie Lee MartinVertie Lee Martin age 93 died Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at TurnerGeriatricCenter in Galveston.  Funeral services will be 4:00 pm Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Moody House Chapel with the Reverend Ray Pinard officiating. Burial will follow at WhitehouseCemetery in Lufkin, Texas under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home.

Vertie was born November 19, 1913 in Keltis, Texas to Henry Martin and Mattie Lee Shelton Martin. She was the Registrar of the Policy Change Department, working at American National Insurance Company since 1946 and retiring in 1978. She went on to run the coffee shop at Moody House for over 20 years in her retirement and was a member of MoodyMemorialFirstUnitedMethodistChurch. Vertie was an independent and self reliant lady who loved to be with her family and will be missed by her family and many friends.

Survivors include her nieces, Sue Scott and Diane Martin of Houston; and nephews, Bill Martin of Alpine, Texas and Eddie Martin of Santa Fe, Texas.

 

Memorials may be sent to the Edgewater Retirement Community in her memory.
