When my cousin, George Sealy, told me that the Galveston Island Beach Band would perform every Tuesday night in the SEALY Gazebo in Galveston, I knew that it would be great fun!
In Tuesday’s July 3 concert, director Frank G. Incaprera gave a rousing performance of the “Sousa March”,” Stars and Stripes”, and “O Beautiful, For Spacious Skies”.
The band of professional musicians were joined by the First Baptist Church Choir, who sang a song to honor each branch of the military. “Old Man River” and “La Bamba” were spiced with a jazzy beat and lively solo riffs by saxophonist Charlie Delgado.
Soprano Donna Heinrich led the audience in a beautiful rendition of “God Bless America”, her warm, rich voice floating over the American Flags.
John and Betty Lou Williams provided the flags for each military branch with a presentation and brief history.
Band leader “Frankie” Incaprera, an enthusiastic historian, gave delightful anecdotes about our forefathers.
Juan Pena, City Councilman of District Three, told us how the checks-and-balances system has held our country together through many challenges.
Members of Ismael Robles’ Karate Academy demonstrated powerful and graceful moves, but then the thunderclouds moved in! Children paraded in the rain, and all celebrated an evening of patriotic joy!
