Catherine Bankhead
E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary

Catherine BankheadCatherine Bankhead, 81, formerly of Galveston, entered into eternal rest at her home in Beaumont, Texas on Wednesday, August 8, 2007

Mrs.  Bankhead was born September 9, 1925, in McDade, Louisiana to the late John and Emma Brown.  She married Joe Bankhead and moved to Galveston, Texas where she was a member of Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.  After 35 years of service as a nurses’ aide, she retired from UTMBHospital.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Bankhead; her son, Charles Benard Bankhead, and her sister, Sadie Johnson.  She leaves with cherished memories three daughters; Renita Bankhead of Pflugerville, Texas; Karen Guidry (Emery Jr.) of Beaumont, Texas; Earlene Turner (Thomas Jr.) of Beaumont Texas; two grandchildren; Michael Bankhead Willis (Teresa) of Adelanto, California; and Rashida Bankhead of Beaumont, Texas; sisters Nora Mae Mims and Virginia Gladney of Shreveport, Louisiana, and two brothers, Roy Lee Brown and John L. Brown of Sacremento, California; eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A special thank you to the staff of Southern Care Hospice, and personal sitters Darlene Taylor, Shenita Thomas, and Wanda Menefee.

Visitation will take place from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at the chapel of E.R. Johnson Family Mortuary, Galveston, Texas. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas
